BORA (Borneo Orangutan Rescue Alliance)

The BORA Orangutan Rehabilitation Center (Bornean Orangutan Rescue Alliance), located in Berau, East Kalimantan, is a rehabilitation facility managed by the Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) dedicated to the rescue and recovery of orangutans affected by conflict, illegal trade, and habitat loss. At this center, orangutans are given the opportunity to recover physically and mentally before being released back into the wild.
BORA features a range of dedicated facilities, including quarantine enclosures, an orangutan clinic, an operating room, a laboratory, a baby house for infants, socialization cages, and a forest school. Each section is carefully designed to support the rehabilitation process and help orangutans develop essential survival skills. COP is also in the process of establishing a sanctuary—an enduring, semi-natural habitat for individuals who cannot be released due to medical or behavioral conditions. BORA serves as both a refuge and a symbol of hope for orangutans who have suffered, playing a crucial role in the conservation of this endangered species in the wild.
